Garlic Week Offering: Garlic Tostones, Yuca with Garlic Mojo, Steak with Garlic and Onions

We are two artists who met through participation in the Print Club of Rochester. Although our main point of convergence stems from printmaking, we have found several specific areas of interest that intersect and diverge in various ways. For instance, one of the first things we learned about each other is that we both make cyanotypes. We also found a mutual affinity for working with segmented images such as diptychs and triptychs. Through studio visits, discussions, and experimental collaboration, our studio practices have been energized, leading to further explorations. These interactions have brought us to propose a curatorial collaboration at the Dove Block Project, where we invite viewers to experience the discoveries we found by looking beyond the walls of our individual studios.

The opening reception on August 1 will feature music by Ryan Sutherland, a Rochester, NY-based singer-songwriter and musician, known for his band The Electric Spiders and his solo work. He's been described as a musician who often explores themes of conflict in his music, incorporating elements of fuzzy rock and sparse folk. One review of his album “Sutherland II” notes the album's mix of these styles, suggesting they “often feel at war with each other.”

The Smith Center for the Arts, Inc. is committed to providing and sustaining diverse arts and education enrichment opportunities for Finger Lakes residents and visitors, while maintaining its historic venue – the Smith Opera House.
